St. Louis-area firefighter dies in apparent ambush |
Firefighters became victims of what appeared to be an ambush Monday when they were fired upon from a house as they worked to put out a vehicle fire across the street, police said. Andre Ethier hit a go-ahead triple to highlight a five-run ninth-inning rally and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-5 on Sunday. The Dodgers took two of three from Arizona to pull even with the Diamondbacks in the NL West.

Officers had been to the white ranch house at 560 W. Longleaf many times before over the past year to respond to a "barricade situation." Each had ended uneventfully, with Joseph Dwyer coming out or telling police in a calm voice through the window that he was OK.
